Which region should I travel to?

I'm working on a writing idea that takes advantage of my love of food, travel and being outdoors. In order to do so I need to visit another region of the US (I currently live in San Francisco). Since options abound in the States, I need some help figuring out where to go next. Influencing factors are as follows:
Timeline: May or June. Up to 2 weeks on the road (depending on the number of travel buddies I can get to come join me for part, or all of, the trip).
Main Goal: Sampling the variety of food in the cities of the regions I visit.
Other Priorities:

• Near National Parks (so I can get in a little camping in between city visits)
• Minimize Cost (Pacific NW and SW are at an advantage since I wouldn't have to fly to the regions first)
• Near family and friends (NE/Mid-Atlantic and South are at a distinct advantage here)

Update: I ended up not traveling anywhere for those months. A little while later, I did drive cross country from Florida to California
