What should George give up for Lent? (Tie breaking vote)

Last week, George's poll result in a two way tie. Here is his latest poll to help break the tie.

"So my recent poll on what I should give up for lent ended in a tie between 'a) soda' and 'b) all discretionary expenditures'. Now what? A couple people had suggested that I should just pick one of the two; of course, for me to do so would be to tacitly accept the failure of VOML's citizenry, which I refuse to do, but equally important: if I were able to make this kind of decision in the first place, I wouldn't have need a poll to begin with. So, I've decide to put it to a second vote, obviously, with the same two options, but will also include a third: Chris had an interesting comment, quoted in option 'c)' which, in the absence of any other suggested calculus, seemed well-reasoned enough for me.

Of course, as aforementioned, we are well into the 40 days towards the Easter deadline, but as I mentioned, I'll commit to a 40 days count nonetheless beginning at the closure of this poll."

Polls Close: Sunday, March 22, 2009.

What should I give up for Lent?

  • Soda: Current run rate is 1-2 cans a day. (50%, 4 Votes)
  • All discretionary expenditures: I estimate I spend $150-200 per week on crap I don't need. (25%, 2 Votes)
  • Soda, but based specifically on this particular logic: "The economy needs people who can afford to spend money to KEEP spending that money right now. I say give up the soda and calories. Good for yo (25%, 2 Votes)

Total Voters: 8

Update: George gave up soda for Lent and ended up quitting 3 weeks into it because he was traveling in the MidWest and ‘claimed’ that there was nothing else to drink.
