Which questions on how to save do I answer first?

A friend of mine and I having been talking about money management for quite some time. She's posed a few questions to me to pick my brain on my saving/spending habits. I'm a tad short on time in the upcoming weeks, so I've decided to take a gradual approach and answer two of her questions first, and address the rest when my schedule clears up. There's no real time pressure for me to reply to her, just internal desire to start responding.

  1. I think you should explore what you ask yourself when you’re considering buying something. We live in a society where everyone is buying stuff they do not need with money they do not have (aka credit). It seems like this is something a lot of people could use a little help with, and not buying unnecessary stuff might would allow more of a cash flow for savings.
